Alex Powell Breaks Into The Top 100 in the World

January 2008

Alex has been riding Downhill bikes for just over 18 months and competing for just over 12 months.

He has taken part in National Points Series (NPS) events, NACC events and the Dragon Downhill series in Wales.

Due to his part-time weekend work commitments he has been unable to complete a full Championship and this situation seems set to continue as his role as No.2 mechanic in the Formula BMW team continues into 2008.

Only competing in 3 out of the 5 races, his results in 2007 have gained him valuable points and his National ranking in the Youth category is 50th. This translates to 81st in the World ranking table. Alex hopes to enter more races in 2008 and improve his National and World rankings.

Alex is currently practicing every weekend on his Santa Cruz Blur 4x and whenever possible, on his familiar Fluorescent Orange, Orange 223 bike or his Black Santa Cruz V10 the latter being mainly reserved for competition use.

The 'Youth' category covers the age range from 15-17 and Alex at 15 is at one of the youngest competitors, probably with the least experience too having taken up Downhill Racing at a relatively late stage.

Alex is extremely grateful to his main sponsor, Team Loctite, for the support given to him so far. This assistance will continue into 2008 and Loctite products will help Alex to finish every event by building security and reliability into his race bikes.
